Our Commitment To Equity, Diversity & Inclusion

The Professional Development Program is committed to providing development opportunities that reflect and support individuals with diverse backgrounds, identities, and experiences. We acknowledge that bias, discrimination, and oppression can impact professional and career development. We are committed to reviewing and assessing our program curriculum, content, and facilitation, as well as administration and management, to continually work toward a more equitable, diverse, and inclusive learning environment that supports dignity and advancement for all.

The Professional Development Program is guided by the UCLA Principles of Community. We are committed to building and retaining a diverse cohort and contributing positively to UCLA’s larger community. To that end, we honor your identities, perspectives and lived experiences. Together, our community strives to create and maintain working and learning environments that are equitable, inclusive, and welcoming.

Principles Of Community

  • We believe that diversity is critical to maintaining excellence in all of our endeavors.
  • We seek to foster open-mindedness, understanding, compassion and inclusiveness among individuals and groups.
  • We value differences as well as commonalities and promote respect in personal interactions.
  • We affirm our responsibility for creating and fostering a respectful, cooperative, equitable and civil campus environment for our diverse campus communities.
  • We acknowledge that modern societies carry historical and divisive biases based on race, ethnicity, gender, age, disability, sexual orientation, and religion, and we seek to promote awareness and understanding through education and research and to mediate and resolve conflicts that arise from these biases in our communities.

Sexual violence, sexual harassment, discrimination, and discriminatory harassment are expressly prohibited by the University of California’s policies pertaining to students, academic personnel, and staff. UCLA takes sexual violence, sexual harassment, and discrimination very seriously.

If any community member has observed or experienced sexual violence, sexual harassment, or discrimination based on any protected category, they can report the incident to the Civil Rights Office.

Protected categories include: race, color, national origin, religion, sex, gender, gender expression, gender identity, gender transition status, pregnancy, physical or mental disability, medical condition (cancer-related or genetic characteristics), genetic information (including family medical history), ancestry, sexual orientation, marital status, age, citizenship, or service in the uniformed services, including protected veterans.

The prohibited conduct described above may result in discontinuation from the Professional Development Program and imposition of sanctions according to University policies governing the conduct of staff.

Reports of discrimination, harassment or retaliation should be made to the Office of Equity, Diversity & Inclusion's Civil Rights Office.
