Roles and Responsibilities 

Successful completion of PDP requires a strong commitment to growth, shared accountability, and flexibility. Participants are expected to remain engaged in their professional development, responsibly balance full-time work with program requirements, and adapt to the needs of their department and cohort.

All Parties

  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Be punctual and prepared for all scheduled events and activities
  • Provide honest, constructive, and timely feedback
  • Give and receive feedback with professionalism and respect

Participant

Participants are expected to

  • Maintain satisfactory job performance and meet all position requirements
  • Attend and actively participate in all program activities
  • Complete all program projects and assignments on time
  • Balance full-time job responsibilities with program commitments
  • Engage fully in peer learning by contributing to discussions, networking activities, and consultation teams
  • Provide respectful, thoughtful, and constructive feedback to peers
  • Respect diverse perspectives, experiences, backgrounds, and viewpoints
  • Communicate regularly with supervisors and departments regarding program activities and time commitments
  • Inform the program manager of any relevant departmental changes or challenges
  • Take ownership of professional growth and career development
  • Anticipate scheduling conflicts and create contingency plans, including securing supervisor approval when needed
  • Proactively seek feedback, guidance, and support
  • Maintain a personal record of goals, action items, and progress

Supervisor/Department

Supervisors and departments are expected to:

  • Provide reasonable paid release time for program participation
  • Offer coaching and feedback related to project planning, execution, challenges, and outcomes
  • Share constructive feedback and recommendations for professional development
  • Collaborate with the program manager on participant-related matters as needed
  • Support opportunities for participants to apply new skills or expand networks when possible
  • Attend the capstone project proposal presentation and provide feedback
  • Attend the capstone project presentation and PDP graduation celebration
  • Create and communicate a coverage plan to ensure departmental continuity

Program Manager

The program manager is responsible for:

  • Communicating program expectations, schedules, and requirements clearly and in a timely manner
  • Notifying participants when expectations are not being met and supporting resolution efforts
  • Providing individualized leadership, performance, and career development support
  • Delivering honest, timely behavioral feedback to support growth
  • Supplying relevant tools, resources, and guidance
  • Serving as a development resource to supervisors
  • Connecting participants to curricular, co-curricular, and extra-curricular learning opportunities

Participant

  • Maintain satisfactory job performance and satisfy all job requirements
  • Be punctual to all events and activities
  • Attend and participate fully in all program activities and complete all program projects and assignments on time
  • Provide peer support and facilitate peer learning by engaging in discussions, participating in networking opportunities, providing respectful and useful feedback to other participants, and participating fully in your project team
  • Be respectful of differing opinions, experiences, interests, choices, and backgrounds
  • Maintain communication with department and supervisor regarding program activities
  • Keep program manager informed of any relevant departmental issues or changes
  • Be accountable for personal professional performance and trajectory and take responsibility for own development process
  • Anticipate scheduling conflicts and create contingency plans, including obtaining supervisor approval.
  • Be proactive in seeking information, feedback, and support
  • Maintain a personal record of goals, action items and progress

Supervisor/

Department

  • Provide participant with reasonable release time for program activities
  • Provide participant with coaching and feedback on project plan, project process, challenges, and results.
  • Make suggestions and provide feedback on areas for performance and professional development
  • Collaborate with program manager concerning issues that may arise
  • Provide participant with opportunities to practice new skills or make introductions when possible
  • Attend capstone project presentation and PDP graduation celebration
  • Enable a Capstone Project Proposal presentation and provide feedback on proposed project   
  • Create a coverage plan and communicate it to department leadership  

Program Manager

  • Notify participant when participant is not meeting program expectations or responsibilities and assist participant in assessing the cause, consequences, and resolutions
  • Assist participant with professional and career development needs
  • Provide honest and timely behavioral feedback to foster professional growth
  • Furnish information, tools, resources, and support
  • Serve as a resource to supervisors regarding employee development
  • Provide timely notice of activities to participant and your department
  • Introduce participant to curricular, co-curricular, and extra-curricular opportunities for professional or personal development.
