To foster community between UCLA faculty and staff, the UCLA Academic Senate, UCLA Staff Assembly, and Campus Human Resources cordially invite you to the 10th annual Emerging Research Speaker Series and reception.

Dr. Jonathan Flint, a professor in residence, in Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences at the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine, will offer an engaging look into his research on understanding how genes influence behavior in a presentation on “The Genetic Basis of Depression.”

All UCLA employees are invited to participate in the 2019 AMG Leadership Conference: "Embracing Change." Scheduled for April 12, 2019, the event will be held from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the UCLA Luskin Conference Center.

The University of California Office of the President (UCOP) is proposing a revision to the Investigation and Adjudication Framework for Staff and Non-Faculty Academic Personnel (Staff and NFAP Framework) under the Presidential Sexual Violence and Sexual Harassment (SVSH) Policy.

As mandated by the California State Auditor (CSA), the Systemwide Title IX Office revised the framework to require the Chancellor or Chancellor’s designee to consult with their campus Title IX Officer on discipline for staff and non-faculty academic personnel found in violation of the SVSH Policy.

The University of California Office of the President (UCOP) is proposing revisions to PPSM 63 – Investigatory Leave. The policy applies to all staff levels, including Professional & Support Staff, Managers & Senior Professionals, and Senior Management Group members.

This impactful systemwide training program was established to enhance and strengthen leadership capabilities in core management competencies and ensure that managers have the skills, knowledge, and resources to effectively lead, engage and develop staff.

The 2019-20 Together In Education In Neighborhood Schools Program, or TIE-INS, is now accepting applications. Launched in 2009, TIE-INS enables children of UCLA employees to attend certain LAUSD schools including families that live outside of the school’s attendance area. The program has been very popular among our faculty and staff; more than 1,800 children have participated since the program’s inception.

Campus Human Resources is pleased to announce the 2019 UCLA Management Enrichment Program (MEP) and requests nominations or applications for participation in this high-level management development program. MEP is designed to provide a framework for enhancing decision-making and leadership skills, particularly in key areas such as strategic planning, financial management, and human resources, along with achieving an understanding of the context in which decisions are made at UCLA.

Campus Human Resources (CHR) is pleased to announce that recruitment is now open for the 2019 Management Skills Assessment Program (MSAP).

The program is designed to assess the management skills of high potential, early career supervisors, managers and professionals for future leadership opportunities at the University. All University of California campuses will participate in the three-day assessment program scheduled to take place at the UCLA Lake Arrowhead Conference Center.

Due to serious concerns about the welfare of employees who may be affected by the wildfires in Ventura and Los Angeles counties, Campus Human Resources is reissuing the guidelines below regarding options that are available to employees and departments in the event that emergency leave and/or other support services are required.

Emergency Leave

Guidelines for UCLA’s Staff Appreciation and Recognition (STAR) Plan for FY 2018-19 are now available. The Guidelines are consistent with Staff Policy 34, Incentive and Recognition Award Plans and provide a basis to recognize staff members for their achievements and outstanding contributions to the department, organization, and/or the campus.

STAR Plan eligibility requirements for policy-covered staff (PSS and MSP) are described in the Guidelines. Highlights are noted below:

Benefits Open Enrollment is from Oct. 25, 2018, to Nov. 20, 2018. This is the first UCLA Open Enrollment using the new Employee Self-Service Portal on UCPath. It is important to remember that the Employee Self-Service Portal replaces AYSO for active employees as the electronic tool for making benefits elections. Eligibility for benefits, the timelines for Benefits Open Enrollment, and the required actions on the part of employees have not changed unless specifically noted.

Here are some highlights for 2019 UC Benefits:

UCLA will close for 11 days between Saturday, December 22, 2018, and Tuesday, January 1, 2019, with plans to reopen on Wednesday, January 2, 2019. The closure period includes four University paid holidays (December 24, 25, 31, 2018, and January 1, 2019) and three days that are not paid holidays (December 26, 27 and 28, 2018).

The University of California Office of the President is proposing revisions to PPSM 66 – Medical Separation and PPSM 81 – Reasonable Accommodation, which apply to regular status employees in the Professional and Support Staff, Management and Senior Professionals, and Senior Management personnel groups.

Applications are now being accepted for the Chancellor’s Diversity Leadership Scholarship to the UCLA Women’s Leadership Institute offered in 2019 by UCLA Anderson’s Office of Executive Education.

UCLA will host a Disability Awareness Training on Wednesday, October 10, 2018, in Carnesale Commons, with David Fram, Esquire, Director of ADA and EEO Services for the National Employment Law Institute.

The primary objective of the training is to ensure that all members of the UCLA community are aware of the importance of providing equal opportunities and access to employees with disabilities. Topics covered will include legal requirements, the meaning of “reasonable accommodation,” confidentiality of medical information and other key issues.

Nominations are now being accepted for participation in the 2019 Systemwide UC Women's Initiative (UC WI) for Professional Development.
