Key Updates on Medical Plan Costs
The trends driving increased medical costs and premiums we all experienced last year are continuing in the marketplace for 2025. As a result, UC's medical plan costs will rise due to a number of factors, including:
- Higher healthcare utilization as our population ages
- Increased chronic health conditions
- Enhanced benefits
- Growing use of expensive new treatments
UC’s Contribution
To help offset these rising costs for employees and retirees, UC will increase its contribution to medical premiums by $198 million from its total in 2024. However, this means that employee and retiree contributions will also need to grow. Most employees can expect no more than an 11% increase in their contributions. Contributions will continue to be based on salary, meaning higher earners will see larger increases.
