Staff employees are not eligible for one-time payments or honoraria. PPSM and Local Procedures 3 and 30 define the allowable methods for appointment and additional compensation for staff employees.

Departments seeking to provide additional compensation or special pay beyond base pay for existing employees should consult their CHR Compensation Consultant prior to any agreement or arrangement made with staff employees or other campus departments.

Consult your department HR Office on the methods by which an individual can be hired and compensated for the defined scope of work. It is generally recommended that an individual be hired into an appropriate appointment type at the appropriate percentage and length of time in order to be compensated through UCPath for the work to be performed. If needed, department HR can route inquiries and further consultation to CHR Compensation.

UC PPSM-30 also defines the allowable types of additional compensation for staff employees. If appropriate, as defined by either policy or program guidelines, departments may consider whether one of the methods defined within UC PPSM 30 is an appropriate means by which to address the situation. Requests requiring CHR review should be routed through your HR Office to CHR Compensation.
