Employee-Initiated Reduction In Time (ERIT) Program Guidelines and ERIT Contract

The UC Office of the President has issued updated Employee-Initiated Reduction in Time (ERIT) Program Guidelines and an updated ERIT Contract, both of which are effective October 30, 2023.

ERIT is an optional program that departments may choose to make available to employees. Under ERIT, eligible policy-covered career staff may, with the approval of their department, voluntarily reduce their appointment percentage and corresponding pay from 5 – 50%. ERIT participants, who must remain on pay status for at least 50% of full-time each month, will continue to accrue vacation and sick leave at their pre-ERIT accrual rates. Following are the program changes:

  • The 36-month lifetime ERIT contract maximum has been changed to 36 months per contract. Departments may choose to renew an employee’s ERIT contract (operational needs permitting), thereby beginning a new 36-month period.
  • The program guidelines, procedures, and FAQs have been consolidated into a single document.
  • Clarifying updates have been made to the terms and definitions in the Employee Benefits section.

UCLA Employee & Labor Relations will notify the unions. Represented employees’ eligibility will be contingent on union concurrence.
