Proposed Renewal of the Employee-Initiated Reduction in Time (ERIT) Program

The University is proposing to renew the Employee-initiated Reduction In Time (ERIT) Program for a three-year period, effective July 1, 2014, through June 30, 2017. ERIT is an optional tool that organizational units may choose to implement as a cost-savings resource.

The program allows eligible career staff, except Senior Management Group members, to voluntarily reduce their current appointment percentage and corresponding pay. In exchange, employees receive certain specified advantages, such as accrual of vacation and sick leave at the employees’ pre-ERIT rates.

For departments that choose to participate in ERIT, an employee may request the department head's approval to voluntarily reduce working time, within specific limits, from a minimum of one month to a maximum of 36 months. For exclusively represented employees, participation in ERIT is subject to agreement by the applicable union. The revised program, reflecting the proposed three-year renewal, is posted in Related Information.

Please distribute this proposal within your organization. Inasmuch as this is a formal policy review, comments from employees are encouraged and are due by May 30, 2014. Comments or questions from campus employees may be sent to Lazetta Smith at lazetta@chr.ucla.edu and from Health System employees to Maure Gardner at mgardner@mednet.ucla.edu.
