May 11, 2022 - Teamsters Proposed 53% Wage Increase

UCLA and Teamsters Local 2010 met for their eighteenth bargaining session on May 11, 2022. The University is pleased to announce that tentative agreement was reached on Article 9 (Apprentices), Article 39 (Subcontracting Unit Work), and Appendix D (Crafts Apprenticeship Standards). The University passed proposals for Article 11 (Promotion and Transfer), Article 23 (Leaves of Absence Without Pay), and Appendix F (Service Engineer Selection Procedure). Teamsters Local 2010 gave an economic presentation to the University which was accompanied by a group of proposals for articles related to economics matters. Some of Teamsters’ economic proposals from this bargaining session are highlighted below:

  • Article 45 (Wages)
    • Ratification bonus of $10,000 per employee at a one-time cost of $5,840,000 for the K4 bargaining unit at UCLA.
    • Percentage across the board increases annually of 12.5%, 10%, 8%, 7%, and 7%, at a total compounded cost of approximately $27,000,000 over current wages during the lifetime of the agreement. This is a proposed increase of 53% from current wages.
    • Total cost to the University of the proposed economic increases including one-time bonus and compounded annual increases equal to approximately $31,000,000.  
  • Article 14 (Overtime)
    • Double time compensation for all hours worked above twelve in a shift.
    • Increase to the amount of compensatory time able to be accrued from 120 to 240 hours.
    • Proposed increase of the overtime meal allowance from $12.00 to $20.00.
  • Article 15 (Pay Differentials)
    • Shift differential increase for swing shift from $1.50 to $2.50.
    • Shift differential increase for graveyard shift from $2.00 to $3.00.
    • Hazard duty differential increases from $1.10 to 7%.
    • New categories of hazard pay earning 7% differential.
    • New weekend work differential of 7%.
    • New hospital work differential of 7%.
    • New plumbing work differential of 7% while doing certain plumbing work.
    • New dive work differential of 7%.
  • Article 33 (Parking)
    • Free parking for all bargaining unit employees.
  • Article 34 (Insurance and Retirement Benefits)
    • New language eliminating increases on increases for insurance premiums and increases to employee contributions to UCRP.
    • Adding numerous other benefits such as a pet insurance, long-term care insurance, retirement tax savings plans, and several others.
  • Article 35 (Death Payments)
    • Increases to the amount of death payment from one-month of eligible employee salary to one year of eligible salary.
  • New Article – Licenses and Certifications of Competency
    • Language stipulating that payment of mandatory certifications or recertifications be paid by the University.
  • Appendix J (Value of Safety Shoes)
    • Increases to the allowance provided for safety shoes from $210 to $250 with an increase of $20 every year for the duration of the agreement.

The University looks forward to continuing productive negotiations with Teamsters during the next bargaining session scheduled for May 18, 2022.
