Proposed Revisions to PPSM 2.210: Absence from Work

During the past few years, the University has continued to update its policies, including PPSM-2.210: Absence from Work (PDF), in support of work-life balance. The changes have included the introduction of Pay for Family Care and Bonding (PFCB) in 2021, expansion of PFCB in 2023, and the introduction of Reproductive Loss Leave in 2024.

The UC Office of the President is now seeking to expand paid sick leave for part-time and full-time employees, with a proposed effective date of January 1, 2025. The proposed revisions include the following key updates:

Expansion of paid sick leave eligibility for part-time employees

Expansion of the reasons for which employees may use paid sick leave

Protection of a specified number of paid sick days per year when taken for specific purposes

Extension of the period during which paid sick leave may be reinstated when an employee is re-employed after separating from the University

The Proposed Revisions to PPSM-2.210: Absence from Work have been posted for review. If you would like to comment on the drafts, please submit your feedback to Kathleen Shiroma at KShiroma@chr.ucla.edu or Jane Miller at JaneMiller@mednet.ucla.edu by April 30.
