In support of the University of California’s Work-Life programs for faculty and staff, and as recommended by the Systemwide Advisory Committee on the Status of Women, a resource for emergency back-up care is available to eligible employees.
Following systemwide review of qualified bids, Sittercity is the vendor selected to provide emergency back-up care services, including but not limited to child care and elder care. This vendor’s delivery model is an on-line self-service resource that puts the control for the search, interview, selection and payment of the caregiver in the hands of the employee.
Through a special website connecting families with in-home caregivers, eligible employees can activate their free UC membership to find appropriate care for their family members, using Sittercity’s nationwide network of nearly 2 million caregivers. The website includes features such as detailed profiles, background checks, references and reviews to help make the process safe and easy. The website is located at: www.sittercity.com/universityofcalifornia.
Participation in the program is voluntary. Hourly rates for care are determined by the caregiver and payment is between the care seeker and the caregiver. For represented employees, the new benefit is subject to the requirements of the Higher Education Employer-Employee Relations Act (HEERA).
