Re: | Employee-initiated Reduction In Time (ERIT) Program Renewed July 1, 2017 |
Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to announce that effective July 1, 2017, the University of California is renewing the Employee-initiated Reduction In Time (ERIT) Program. The popularity of ERIT has grown since its initial implementation, as it provides employees an option to seek work-life balance and results in savings to departments that participate. Since its implementation in 2011, the estimated savings for UCLA has reached $11 million.
ERIT allows eligible career staff, except Senior Management Group members, to voluntarily reduce their current appointment percentage and corresponding pay. In exchange, employees receive certain specified advantages, such as accrual of vacation and sick leave at the employees’ pre-ERIT rates.
For departments that choose to participate in ERIT, an employee may request the department head's approval to voluntarily reduce working time, within specific limits, from a minimum of one month to a maximum of 36 months. Exclusively represented employees are eligible for ERIT if their applicable union has agreed to participate in the program.
Eligible employees may elect to participate in ERIT effective July 1, 2017, with actual reductions in time beginning on that date.
The following documents are designed to help with the implementation of the program:
Updated information on the ERIT Program will be posted on UCNet in the coming weeks. If you have questions regarding the ERIT Program, for campus employees please contact Dyanna De Alba at ddealba@chr.ucla.edu, and for Health Sciences employees please contact Maure Gardner at mgardner@mednet.ucla.edu.
Please distribute this memo within your organization, so that eligible employees who are interested in the program may request this opportunity.
Sincerely,
Lubbe Levin | Susi Takeuchi |
