Administrative Officers, Deans, Department Chairs, Directors, Vice Chancellors and Vice Provosts

Dear Colleagues:

As you may know, UCLA’s Professional Development Program (PDP) is a fundamental resource in identifying the University’s talent pool for the future. A key component of the program’s success is the mentorship relationship between program participants and members of the UCLA community who generously volunteer as mentors. Participants in previous years have often cited the importance of the mentorship experience with senior leaders during the program as a key factor in their professional development and career advancement.

We are seeking mentors with diverse backgrounds and skillsets at the Manager 1–4 (Career Tracks) level (and equivalent) or members of the Senior Management Group (SMG). The total time commitment of a mentor is approximately 15 hours, which includes a monthly one-on-one meeting with the mentee and three special events taking place between October 2023 and June 2024.

Guidance for maximizing the mentorship experience is provided throughout the year. We encourage mentors to discuss best practices in their field, provide learning opportunities when appropriate, offer feedback and developmental coaching, and share personal challenges and successes in their career.

We appreciate your consideration of volunteering to be a mentor this year. If you decide to participate, please complete this Mentor Interest Form by September 15, 2023. You will receive official program documents and event invitations if you are matched with one of our participants (PDF).

For more information, please visit the Professional Development Program web page and take a look at the 2023 PDP Highlights Report (PDF). For questions regarding this opportunity, contact Kelsey Duff, Professional & Career Development Portfolio Manager, at KDuff@chr.ucla.edu.

Sincerely,

Lubbe Levin
