UC Management Development Program

The University of California Office of the President (UCOP) commissioned industry leaders in talent management and leadership development to create a program that is relevant to the evolving demands that University managers face. This impactful systemwide training program, offered by UCLA, was established to enhance and strengthen leadership capabilities in core management competencies and ensure managers have the skills, knowledge, and resources to effectively lead, engage and develop staff.

The program consists of four full-day modules. The topics change every year to complement trends in the workforce that managers and supervisors may face on a regular basis. Prior workshops have focused on "Exercising Influence," "Leading Change and Managing Transitions," "Employee Engagement," as well as "Manager Redefined."

The program’s target audience is managers at Manager 1/Supervisor 2 and above (or equivalent classifications), especially those who manage supervisors and/or lead complex programs or projects. Participation is limited to 25 attendees, with the expectation that all four modules will be completed. The program fee includes course materials.

Registration and nominations for participation in the program typically begin in January. Participants are notified of their selection in early February, and the workshops are held the following March through April.
