This class covers techniques for improving communication, with special emphasis on the relationship between supervisors and direct reports. The workshop focuses on:
- Understanding the communication process
- Identifying barriers to communication
- Identifying and implementing solutions to communication problems
- Practicing listening skills
- Giving behavioral feedback for both reinforcement and correction
- Giving instructions to train employees
This course counts as a required course toward the Supervisory Leadership Principles Certificate.
Staff and faculty supervisors and managers at all levels are eligible to enroll. All staff and faculty who do not yet supervise others but aspire to supervisory positions are also eligible to enroll.
