This self-paced webinar version of the full Introduction to Supervision course provides an overview of the many facets of supervision. The class focuses on developing supervisory effectiveness; the role of UCLA supervisors, including the need to foster alignment with their department’s strategic objectives in support of UCLA’s core mission and goals; the five functions that supervisors perform; an overview of the campus organizational structure and UCLA’s relationship with the UC system; a guide to identifying and working with key campus resources; and ways to assess one’s own current individual supervisory strengths.
Note: This course is recommended for all UCLA staff and faculty who are:
- Relatively new to supervision
- Longer-term supervisors wanting to update, build on, or reinforce their skills and knowledge
- Non-supervisors who aspire to supervisory positions
Staff and faculty supervisors and managers at all levels are eligible to enroll. All staff and faculty who do not yet supervise others but aspire to supervisory positions are also eligible to enroll.
