No, you must have your own online profile in the system to complete a job application. When logged in to your profile, you can apply to multiple jobs listed on our Career Opportunities website.

If you already have an online profile, you'll find out upon starting your job application:

  • Go to the "Returning Candidate? Log back in" link. The system will prompt you to enter your email address. If you DO have a profile in the system, you will be directed to your dashboard.
  • If you DO NOT have a profile, you'll be directed to enter a password which means you do not have a profile in the system and will be required to build a new profile.

Additionally, you can always contact us applicant.support@chr.ucla.edu to ask if you have a profile or not.

  • Note: Your online profile can only be associated with one email address. If you're unsure if you have an online profile and regularly use more than one email, you may wish to enter multiple addresses on our Career Opportunities website to see if any are attached to an existing profile. Please do not create additional profiles for yourself with different email addresses.

Creating a Profile and Applying to Jobs

If you're a new applicant, you can create an online profile by clicking Apply for this job online on any listed job and following the steps presented to you.

NEW APPLICANTS: You have to apply for a position to create your official profile. Once you create your official profile it can be used to apply for additional jobs.

If you're not logged in, you may be taken to an Enter Your Email page after clicking Apply for this job online. By inputting your email address, the system will identify whether you're a new applicant or a returning applicant with an existing profile. It will then direct you to the logical next step in your application.

You can submit your information in a few different ways. Options may include:

Uploading your resume (through your computer or through a cloud storage site like Google Drive, Dropbox, or Microsoft OneDrive). The system will gather information from your resume and fill in the appropriate fields.

Filling out an online form, which allows you to enter your information into each field manually.

Available options will be presented to you on the Basic Information page of your application. The information you choose to include will become part of your online profile in the system.

You can check your status by logging in to your profile and reviewing your candidate dashboard. The dashboard will display all positions you've applied to, along with the status of each one.

You can do this through the candidate dashboard in your online profile. In the Actions column, you'll see a Continue Application button next to all jobs in which you have an incomplete application. Clicking this button allows you to continue your application from where you left off.

UCLA will provide special accommodations for applicants with disabilities as necessary. Please contact our Campus Human Resources office for assistance at (310) 794-0890 or email applicant.support@chr.ucla.edu.

UCLA conducts criminal background checks for positions designated as "critical." Critical positions are those that have direct responsibility for the care, safety, and security of humans or the safety and security of personal or University property.

UCLA typically does not sponsor visas for employment; however, this is at the department's discretion and must align with applicable visa laws and in conjunction with support for the UCLA Dashew Center for International Students and Scholars.

Some positions require drug testing prior to hire or during the course of employment, e.g., bus drivers. If drug testing is required, this requirement will be stated in the job posting.

Updating and Submitting Your Information

You can update your information by logging in to your existing profile and clicking the Update your profile button. This will bring up your profile page, where you can make updates to your personal information and/or resume. When finished, simply click Update Profile at the bottom.

Important: If you update your resume, it will replace all previous versions for every position you have applied to.

It is recommended that you put your name and contact information within the body of your resume rather than within the header or footer of the document. Additionally, it is not recommended to include graphics, images, or photos.

To remove your application from consideration for a position, click on the Withdraw button next to jobs for which you have a completed application. This will remove your name from consideration for the job.

Important: Once you withdraw your application, it cannot be undone, and you cannot withdraw and reapply.

Upon successful submission of your application, you will see a confirmation message indicating that the application has been received.

Interview and hiring decisions are made at the department level, so Campus Human Resources will have limited information on the recruitment process. You may check the status of your application at any time by logging into the UCLA Careers Opportunities website. From the left navigation bar, choose "Application Status." There you can view your application materials and the status of each position.

Yes, you can submit your resume for general consideration without applying to a specific position by joining the UCLA Talent Community. To do so, please visit our Talent Community page.

Searching for a Job

There are various ways to search for a job on the career site:

  1. Keyword search: A keyword search is used primarily for searching title, description of a job, requisition number, and/or job category.
  2. Advanced search: Additional filters may be available to allow you to narrow down your search even further. If available, you can use any or all of these filters:
  • Category
  • Department
  • Position Type
  • Remote/Hybrid Eligibility
  • Bargaining Unit

If you choose to use more than one filter, your results will meet all of the criteria selected.

New jobs may be posted on a daily basis. You are encouraged to check our Career Opportunities site often.

Interview and Selection

The hiring department or Department Talent Acquisition Specialist will contact you directly via phone, email, or through the UCLA Careers site if you have been selected for an interview.

The timeline for notifying candidates about interviews varies by UCLA department, but most departments aim to provide updates as soon as possible. Please check your dashboard for the latest updates.

If you accept the offer, you may be required to undergo a background check or a physical exam as part of our standard employment procedures. The job posting typically indicates these requirements.

Managing Job Notifications and Communications

Many email providers have increasingly stringent spam filters that can trap legitimate emails. This often includes emails sent automatically, such as job application confirmations or company newsletters; it can also include emails sent to you personally, such as interview invitations.

If you notice that emails from us are going to your spam folder, you may need to adjust your spam filters.

The terminology and steps to take these actions will depend on your email provider, but the idea is generally the same—you need to find the email in your spam folder and indicate that either the message or its sender is not spam.

Here are a few links to help you prevent and manage spam from some of the most common email providers:

  • Gmail: Mark or unmark Spam in Gmail
  • Yahoo: Manage spam and mailing lists in Yahoo Mail
  • Microsoft Outlook: Manage and organize: Clean up Inbox
  • iCloud: iCloud: Manage junk mail
  • AOL: AOL Mail: Spam and Privacy

UCLA Terminology

Under certain circumstances, a hiring unit may limit the scope of recruitment to current and former campus employees. In this case, the job posting would specify "UC/UCLA-Recruitment Only" and applications would be limited to those individuals.

Career refers to a position that is indefinite with no end date and is typically a full-time position. However, there are instances where a department may have a part-time position that is considered a career position.

A Limited position is one in which there is a definite end date. Limited positions may work up to 1,000 hours based on UCLA department needs.

A Contract position is one with a definite end date and terms of employment clearly identified in a written document. The contract appointment terminates automatically on the expiration date of the employment contract unless prior to the expiration date the contract is renewed. Contract appointments are eligible for benefits.
