Dual Employment is the term used to describe additional time worked by a staff employee in either (a) the employee's home department, but in a different job than the employee's permanent appointment or (b) a department other than the employee's home department.
Dual employment is any combination of appointments for an employee that exceeds 100%. Dual employment is intended to be a rare occurrence with policy-defined conditions, all of which must be met, before dual employment can be approved. The department requesting the employee's additional work initiates the approval process using a "Request for Dual Employment" form.
- Refer to the Bruin CHR Service Center for complete details on Dual Employment:
- What is Dual Employment?
- Process for submitting a dual employment request
- No payment of dual employment should be processed without a notification of approval from Campus Human Resources, Compensation Services.
Note: The work schedule should be coordinated between the two departments to ensure that the employee is compensated for the correct number of hours at the appropriate rate of pay. See the following examples.
The Earn code for dual employment is DES for straight time and DEP for premium time for non-exempt employees and DEE for exempt employees.
Refer to UCPath guidelines for properly processing dual appointments for payment.
